Medion PNA 465T FlashRom and Jail-Break

Installing Flash-Rom New Install Medion PNA 465T Sat-Nav by sparkyuiop

First don't install the 470 firmware as it has dialler and Bluetooth software that the 465T doesn't support but likes to load and fail on each time you turn it on.
Go into your control panel and under 'Folder Options' unhide 'known extensions' and 'show hidden files' (not the operating system files that show a warning when selected)
Get a 2GB SD Card and format it to FAT16 in a PC or USB card reader. I'm not sure you can format it correctly in the 465T device and I haven't tried.
Next remove the SD card from the 465T if you have it in there and remove the USB lead if attached to a computer.
Turn on the navi and when you see the screen come on shove something in the reset hole in the bottom so it resets.
When it gets to the red Medion screen tap your finger on the letter 'O' in the word 'GoPal' and it will bring up a service menu.
That can be a bit tricky and the menu usually disappears after the first tap and you need to tap it once again before it loads the shell.
When you got it up delete everything, format everything and reset the GPS and factory settings. Reboot the device and turn it off. If the battery is running out then connect it to your USB or charger now but leave it off as you got some downloading to do!
First we will flash the correct firmware onto it. There are two types of 465T and two different firmware's. I have heard from a good source that flashing the wrong firmware can brick it although thankfully I have not been down that road. And there is no reason to either, the difference is that one of the models has a serial connection at the bottom for sitting on a dock or whatever and the other model doesn't.
You can't miss it, if you don't have a row of 12 copper terminals between the USB socket and the headphone socket then you need the non-serial firmware that I have uploaded here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CIQMBQTL) download it now. For the one with the serial connector download this one now (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RK8LJVJG)
I have used megaupload.com as you can download for free after waiting a few seconds and pretty quickly too. Some of these file hosting sites are a rip-off but this one is pretty fair so don't worry.
When you got the download you need to un-RAR it or un-zip it. Forget Winzip though and get Winrar here (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm) and install it.
Once installed go to the downloaded file e.g. Medion PNA 460_465_T_With-Serial_FlashRom.rar, right click the file and select 'Extract to Medion PNA 460_465_T_With-Serial_FlashRom.rar\' which will extract the compressed image to a folder with the same name where you are.
Open the 'Medion PNA 460_465_T_With-Serial_FlashRom' folder and copy the 2 files 'winceimg.bin' and 'winceimg.cks' to your SD card in the PC / USB card reader.
Remove the navi from the USB connection if applicable and insert the SD card into the unit.

1. Now hold both buttons on the right (power button + menu button) until a blue screen appears.
2. After the blue screen appears you can release the buttons.
3. Now use the same two buttons to cycle through the menu as follows:-
The navigation button (small flag)  to switch to the next menu item.
The power button (push and release - no longer need to hold) is to confirm selection.
4. In the menu select point 0 = Flash-ROM marked 'Upgrade' and confirm this by briefly pressing the power button.
Note: If you're not in the main menu, select EXIT and you're back in the main menu!
5. Now select point '2 = WinCE move by SD / MMC' and press 'power button' briefly to confirm choice.
6. If everything completes without issue, after a few minutes a message on the display will appear as follows:-  'Restart your device'
7. When this message appears on the display hold the power button until the device shuts down.
8. Disconnect it from the USB and leave it switched off for now.

You now need 'Microsoft ActiveSync' running on your computer. If you have this already then move on to the next part. I'm using Windows 7 64bit and so have 'Windows Mobile Device Centre' instead (also for Vista) which you can obtain from Microsoft for free here (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/apps/default.aspx).

Once you have Windows mobile or ActiveSync installed connect the 465T to the USB and turn it on. Once at the splash screen Windows mobile or ActiveSync should appear giving you an option to explore the device. If it doesn't start then start the Sync software from the programs menu on your computer. Don't bother setting up the device now as it won't allow you too, just explore the folders and you should see 3 drives as follows:
/
/My Flash Disk
/Storage card
You may remove the SD card now if you wish and get rid of '/storage card' as it will not be needed for a while.
Open the '/My Flash Disk' window and it should be empty all but for a 'config' file? Yes!?
Create 2 new folders in this drive and name them as follows (in the same case), 'INSTALL' and ' MapRegions.'

Now you need the actual navigation software from the DVD that came with the device. If you have the DVD (I'll eat my pants! But see below for details) then browse the contents and locate the 'Installation' folder'.
Copy all items from the 'Installation' folder on the CD  to the 'INSTALL' folder on the '/My Flash Drive'.
Next, again from the DVD if you have it, copy from the 'MapRegions' folder any of the map files ending in '.psf' that you want on your device to your new '/My Flash Disk/MapRegions' folder.
Finally copy the voice language folder from the folder named 'TSD' on the DVD into the '/My Flash Disk/MapRegions' folder (REMEMBER YOU NEED TO COPY THE WHOLE FOLDER WITH THIS ONE).

THE DVD!!!

Ok, so the DVD I didn't have either and had to locate a copy of it. Now ordinarily sharing this sort of software would be considered copyright fraud or piracy but from what I can ascertain the DVD (other than the revision changes) are all the same. If you own a Medion sat-nav (from this generation at least) then any and every version of the DVD will install on your device. There is no activation wizard at any point and the software looks for updates online without asking for any serial number or key or anything else. I can only assume that the Medion server knows you are using a genuine product (possibly by detecting the units serial number through the software) and authorizes the update? That being the case I can't see why posting a link to it should be a problem, however this is not my website and if the administrator feels differently then I assume the links below will be removed. What I can tell you is that I found the DVD through (http://www.binsearch.info/) and downloaded it with a £8 30 day unlimited download high speed 'News Demon' subscription here (http://www.newsdemon.com/) and the free 'News Reader' application 'AltBinz' here (http://www.altbinz.net/index.php?page=downloadz).
If you don't know how to use a News Server there is plenty of info on the web about it or through the site you buy a subscription from. This is the best way to download big files fast but you may find it on the web.
The name of the DVD I downloaded is called:
 'Mijn bestanden (whatever that means)/ GoPal AE5.0A 83557 MSN 40033226 2010-03-30 / GoPal 583557AE.iso'

I am not going to upload the entire 4.7GB DVD so it will just be the two folders I told you to create on the '/My Flash Drive'. I am only going to upload UK and Ireland maps because these are easily sourced elsewhere. Download all of the parts before 'un-raring' and extract the folders to your computer before copying to the device.

When you have the two folders in the '/My Flash Disk' device drive, disconnect the USB cable from the computer and press in the reset button underneath the unit.
The device should now start to install. It will reboot quickly prompting for language settings and screen calibration before installing the rest of the files and loading the navigation software.

Congratulations! Feel free to complete the navigation setup at this stage but do not delete those two folders from the  '/My Flash Disk' as these will re-install the software if you should ever need it to. You can copy them to an SD card but this takes literally forever to install back and besides you won't need the flash disk for anything big. All custom software including iGO8, Tom-Tom etc will be run from the SD slot. Only this navigation software included with your device will be installed on the flash drive.

Once again format the SD card in the computer card reader to FAT16.
Download the folder below and copy the contents directly onto the card (without the folder they are contained in).

Once copied rename 'MioAutoRun.exe' to 'GOCE.exe' and 'MioAutoRun.mscr' to 'GOCE.mscr'.
Remove the navi from the USB cable if attached and insert the SD card. It doesn't matter if it is on or off,  it should load the Mio Menu.
Scroll to the bottom and select to install to system.
When prompted to locate your normal navigation software point it to this file and click OK:

\My Flash Disk\navigation\mnavdce.exe

That's it! You now have a Windows CE activated device full of great games and app's, a video player, music player, photo viewer and of course your choice of whatever navigation software you want to put on it.
Phew! Time for a cuppa, hope this helps you out.

  2. Hi dude.

Just wanted to let you know that you SAVED MY LIFE with your post! I just got back my device working after almost damaging it with some failed attempt to update software and maps with and old rom version. Thanks for your time and effort typing all this on you blog. It did really help. So much that I should buy you a couple of drinks if you lived in Madrid.
